T20 break for Spalding

Spalding will be looking to lift their season on Saturday when they take a break from their Lincs Premier League Premier Division relegation battle.

A 61-run defeat at home to Scunthorpe Town left them 26 points adrift of safety with only 60 points left to play for in matches against Bourne, Grantham and Woodhall Spa. However, Grantham are bottom and Woodhall Spa are two places above Spalding, so there is still hope.

They can put that to one side though because silverware is up for grabs this weekend when they travel to Woodhall Spa to take on the hosts and Bracebridge Heath in the George Marshall T20 Cup Finals Day.

So far Spalding have seen off the challenges of Ketton Sports, Bourne, Grantham and Boston to reach the final.

Leaders Scunthorpe Town’s bowling attack proved too strong for Spalding last week.

After dismissing the visitors for 254, Spalding succumbed for 193 in reply.

Scunthorpe were struggling at 40/4 and 128/6, with Barnaby Dring claiming 5-59 but captain Henry Wilson held them together with a mid-innings 84.

Spalding struggled to match the run rate and were 37/3 and 72/6 before the tail wagged, led by Jamie Coles’ unbeaten 29 after captain Ollie Dring had put on a run-a-ball 40. Coles put on a battling 62 for the last wicket with Walter Kinlock (19)

There was an emphatic victory for Moulton Harrox in Championship South.

After bowling out Boston for 80, the hosts sprinted to a seven-wicket victory inside 21 overs.

Matt Rose won the toss and inserted Boston. That was the right decision as the visitors lost five batsmen without scoring and only captain Luke Gilding (36) reached double figures. Paul Edgeller took 5-18 from his eight overs, including two maidens.

Ruari Drumm (27no), Charlie Poulter (23) did most of the work in pushing their team to a winning 81/3.

Long Sutton Seconds won their first game of the Division Two South campaign and it came in memorable style with a five-wicket success against derby rivals Spalding Seconds.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat, but captain Dan Mulley was one of three batsmen out for a duck as Daniel Plant (5-37) sent them packing for 148 in 30 overs. Connor McGinn was the only one to carry the fight to the hosts, scoring an unbeaten 55.

Aran John (37), Rajan Sangha (30) and Paul Rishen (22) built a solid foundation for the reply and Sutton reached 149/5 in the 36th over to claim the points.

Captain Harry Lovell retired not out for 59 and Ruari Drumm hit 48 but it was not enough to earn victory for Moulton Harrox in Division Four of the Rutland Sunday League

That helped their team to post 199/7 from their 40 over but visitors Oundle Town wasted little time in reaching their target, striking 30 boundaries and needing less than 32 overs to reach 203/2.

Long Sutton Colts pushed runaway Mid-Norfolk Sunday League Kevin Grimmer Division champions Downham Stow close.

Ed Blundy-Gent scored 50, with support from Tim Norris (30) and Steve Norris (20) to give his team a hopeful 144 from 29.5 overs after they had slipped from 51/2 to 56/6.

Dan Oldfield (2-10) and Riley Norris (2-38) took two wickets apiece as the hosts struggled to get going but an unbeaten 62 in the middle order from Olly Hooker turned the match in their favour as they chalked up a ninth win from nine games with two wickets to spare at 145/8.
