Super Saints smash six to march into League Shield semi-finals

Tydd St Mary Reserves stormed into the last four of the ChromaSport PDFL’s League Shield with a 6-3 win over Parkside on Saturday.

Despite not playing a game for six weeks, Tydd started the first five minutes brightly and went ahead when Kyle Davis slid the goal past the bewildered keeper after some lovely football by Dale Parnell.

A crazy period followed as a bizarre 25-yard own goal by Stuart Stephens levelled the scores, then Jake Hinton-Penta followed suit with a second OG.

Parkside then added a third, but Tydd’s second string hit back to go in level at 3-3 at half time.

Stephens pulled a goal back from a thunderous left-footed volley, before player-manager Joe Johnson scored with one of his first touches having replaced Davis.

He confidently dispatched the ball home from 30 yards after the Riverside keeper’s goal kick landed at his feet.

Tydd started the second half as they finished the first as Hinton-Penta became the second-player to atone for an own goal when he scored in the opposition net.

Parnell added further misery to the away side with two well-taken goals, as Tydd secured their place in the last four.

There’s a quick turnaround for that semi, with Tydd playing host to Stanground Reserves this Saturday (1.30pm).

The winners will face either Whittlesey Athletic C or Brotherhood Sports.
