Long Sutton kept their cool to defeat South Holland rivals Spalding Town by seven wickets on Sunday – and go top in Division Three of the Rutland Cricket League.
After Sutton won the toss and opted to bowl first at Paradise Field, stellar scores from Ollie Dring (74) and Jon Manton (65) guided visitors Town to 198-7 from their 45 overs.
Skipper Jake Burton was the pick of the Sutton bowlers with 4-29, while Dan Oldfield (2-21) and Josh Baker (1-22) also got in amongst the wickets.
Sutton’s reply was impressive, with Angus Bell (77 not out) and Oldfield (66) both making half-centuries.
Josh Baker (24) also scored well as they made it to 201-3 in the 39th over.
Down in Division Four East, however, Long Sutton 2nd suffered an eight-wicket defeat at Uffington 2nd.
Batting first, Sutton were bowled out for a disappointing 103 in just 31 overs.
Steven Milnes (33), Daniel Plant (21) and Ajay Jinah (18) were the only Sutton batsmen to muster reasonable scores, with Will Fry (4-11) the chief destroyer with the ball.
Uffington eased to 105-1 in reply, with Damien Herrick (59 not out) and Kristian Ramsier (28) doing the damage with an impressive innings.
