Student banned after driving into pole and ditch

An 18-year-old student who drove into a telegraph pole and ditch has been banned from driving.

Kelly Wright of Roman Bank, Moulton Seas End, Spalding admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis when she appeared before magistrates in Boston.

Prosecuting, Marie Stace said the standard of her driving on Boxing Day last year led a member of the public to report her to the police and she was then seen to hit a telegraph pole and crash into a ditch on the A16 at Moulton Chapel.

She said police attended and she was arrested after providing a positive breath test at the scene, but although she was able to provide one sample at the police station, she could not provide a second.

In mitigation it was said that Ms Wright was an 18 year old student with no income and had no previous convictions.

She said she was ‘very embarrassed and sorry’ about what had happened.

She was banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay a fine of £120 and court costs and charges totalling £219.

She was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course which will reduce the period of the ban by 13 weeks.
