Strong Spalding Indoor Bowls Club presence as Lincolnshire reach national semi-finals

No less than 11 of Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s players helped Lincolnshire to a national quarter-final win against Cumbria in the Liberty Trophy.

Lincolnshire, who were last inter-county national champions back in 2018, were always in control after taking an early 20-shot lead.

Cumbria battled back to get within eight shots, but Lincolnshire pulled away again to secure a comfortable 21-shot (117-96) victory and book their place in the semi-final.

There, they will make the trip to face Northamptonshire IBC in a game set for this Saturday (March 5).

  • Spalding Indoor Bowls Club suffered a defeat in their latest mixed county league fixture away at Skegness.

Spalding lost a close game by five shots (67-72) and were even leading for the majority of the fixture.

Although two rinks lost and one drew, Spalding did have one winning rink skipped by Graham Wright, with Tony Westland, Maggie Wheatley and Barbara Hurst who had an impressive 22-10 win.

The final match score was 11-3 in the favour of Skegness.

Spalding remain second in the south section, only three points behind Boston.

The next mixed county league fixture is at home to Grantham on Sunday.

  • Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s junior bowlers were recently presented with a cheque for £200 from a representative from Howdens Joinery, in Spalding, to purchase new shirts for the junior section of the club.

Howdens Joinery are a supplier of kitchens and joinery products to the building trade.

Spalding’s under-25 bowls co-ordinator, Colin Wilson, was presented with the cheque from Mateusz Opiela, of Howdens.
