Steph to donate her own hair to support niece who has lost hers during chemo

A Holbeach woman is set to donate her hair to thank a charity who gave her eight-year-old niece who is going through chemotherapy a wig.

Steph Greenhalgh has been moved to help out after seeing the care received to Lexie after an unknown virus caused her to have anaemia and bone marrow failure.

Lexie spent months in hospital enduring chemotherapy but thanks to The Anthony Nolan Trust a person was found so she could have a cell transplant.

Now Steph is looking to raise money for that charity and The Little Princess Trust who provided her with a wig.

“Lexie (pictured left) had her stem cell transplant on June 4 and is still recovering slowly but hoping to be allowed home within the next couple of weeks,” said Steph. “I find her strength and bravery amazing, throughout her ordeal she has remained positive and smiling.

Steph is also looking to raise awareness of the condition.

“The Anthony Nolan charity are always looking to expand their donor database and in 90 per cent of cases it isn’t much different from giving blood,” she continued. “You get a swab pack in the post and then if one day you are a genetic match, you could save somebody’s life.”

Steph’s herself is mum to Jayden (6) and Jorgia (1) with partner Jamie given the duty of cutting the hair on July 15.

“He is nervous about cutting off so much hair, but we’ll be going over it afterwards with clippers to tidy it up,” Steph added.
