Steelers seek new influx of players ahead of new walking football season

South Lincs Steelers Walking Football Club entered their over-50s team in a COVID-19 disrupted Peterborough and District League.

It was a solid season for them, as they finished sixth in a nine-team league – missing out on fourth place on goal difference alone.

Overall, they played a total of 16 games, winning eight, drawing twice and losing just six times.

The highlight was beating the eventual winners Wisbech 3-2 and denying The Fenmen an unbeaten season.

The Steelers also have an over-60s team entered in the Lincs League, with two rounds left to play.

All at the club are very proud of their first season and are gunning to improve on all front next season.

Meanwhile, last Thursday saw a friendly over-45s seven-a-side game played against local rivals Boston at Glen Park.

After a close first half which ended 0-0, Boston showed their experience and scored three unanswered goals after the interval.

This Sunday, the South Lincs Steelers will take two teams to Wisbech for a pre-season five-a-side friendly.

If walking football sounds like your things, the South Lincs Steelers train on Mondays (5.45-6.45pm) at Glen Park in Surfleet.

Walking football is predominantly aimed at the over-50 age group, but the club also run an over-45 session on Thursdays (6-7pm), also at Glen Park.

However, all players are welcome of any age and ability.

The club are, though, especially looking to recruit more over-60s players to play in the Lincolnshire League.
