Four-year-old cancer sufferer Liam Phillips had his dreams turned into reality when he got to fight crime with hero Spider-Man.
Diagnosed at just two weeks old, Liam is fighting Neuroblastoma.
He loves Spider-Man, so Make-A-Wish Foundation UK – the charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions – arranged for Liam to meet him.
Liam, who lives in Cowbit, was accompanied by mum and dad Claire and Stuart and wore his very own Spider-Man outfit for the day.
He and Spider-man played together, creating spider webs and opening presents. Then came Liam’s favourite part of the day – searching for the Green Goblin and making London’s Melia White hotel safe from baddies!
Liam was even presented with a certificate to confirm he’s an official superhero.
Claire said: “Liam said to me after the wish ‘it was the best day ever!’
“He hasn’t stopped talking about it. The wish has made him happier and helped him cope with what he has been through – it has given him a sense of normality and made him feel special.”
After a short course of chemotherapy when he was born, Liam was declared all clear. However, doctors found another tumour on his left adrenal gland when he was two and the cancer had spread to his liver.
He had an operation to remove the adrenal gland and the tumour in his liver, but in August last year a new tumour on his right adrenal gland was discovered.
Doctors are monitoring the tumour, but it is an uncertain time for the family.
Claire added: “It was fantastic to do something as a family that doesn’t involve Liam’s illness. We have spent a lot of time in hospital, but the wish provided us with quality family time and gave us all a real escape.
“It was great to see Liam so happy and we have created some amazing memories to treasure.”
