Spencer takes the win

The majority of the 35 pegs at Main Road were taken for the latest Tydd Gote AC Sunday club match and with clear skies and little or no breeze it was always going to be a tough day.

End pegs play a big part on days like this and so it proved as Andy Spencer on peg 1 and Bob Bates on peg 29 battled it out for the honours.

Andy fished pinkie over ground bait and hemp from the concrete at around six metre for some nice roach, perch and skimmers for 6lb 5oz.

That was enough to edge Bob’s level 6lb from the opposite end of the match length.

He caught also to pinkie over groundbait at around five metres.

John Taylor was third from peg three with 4lb 5oz but had the misfortune to do battle with a huge pike estimated at between 15lb and 20lb that disrupted his swim.

Martin Roper took the first section from seven with 2lb 13oz, Dan Abbott the middle section from peg 14 with a bonus skimmer and some bits for 2lb 2oz and Pete Emery the end section from peg 22 with 3lb 6oz.

* Wednesday Open: 1. Pete Emery 34lb 10oz 2. Dave Simmonds 10lb 11oz 3. John Taylor 8lb 12oz Thursday evening: 1. Paul Bawden 6lb 12oz 2. Pete Emery 5lb 3oz 3. Dan Abbott 4lb 10oz
