Spalding’s new logo and tagline unveiled

A new logo to promote Spalding has been revealed.

The winner of a design competition – run by Spalding town centre manager Dennis Hannant in conjunction with The Spalding and South Holland Voice – is Graham Taylor.

Mr Hannant said the submission was just what competition committee members had been looking for.
“It’s contemporary, whilst still saying something about Spalding’s history,” he said. “It is simple, fresh-looking and something that can be used in all situations, from letterheads to T-shirts and coffee mugs; all of which can be used to promote Spalding.”

Mr Taylor, who lives in New York, is originally from Spalding and has family in the town.
His tagline “Fenland Treasure” was also chosen as a winner.
He said: “I am absolutely thrilled at winning the competition, very proud of being a Spaldonian and it’s fantastic to be able to give something back to the town, where I had such a great upbringing and a good start in life.”

A former pupil at Sir John Gleed School, Mr Taylor is a professional independent graphic designer.
He decided to enter the competition as a private individual, after reading some of the town centre manager’s articles in The Voice whilst back in Spalding on holiday.
Mr Taylor won the first prize of £100 worth of vouchers donated by Hills Department Store.
He has also offered to assist with projects connected with the use of the logo, for no payment.

Mr Hannant said the logo competition committee members were extremely impressed with all of the entries submitted and the level of interest generated.
Second place was awarded to Paula Van Dyke, for her tulip-shaped logo, which depicted many of the different facets of the town and its history.
Mr Hannant said: “The committee was greatly impressed by her artistic prowess and the level of detail, both in the finished logo and in the supporting work boards.”
Mrs Van Dyke wins a £50 voucher for Alley-Catz Bowling in Spalding.

The committee made special mention of the submission from Spalding 12-year-old Emily Evans, who

wins a £20 voucher to spend at Beale’s Department Store.

All prizes will be presented to the winners at an event in July, details of which will be given later.
