Spalding Golf Club’s Daily Mail Foursomes pairing of Chris Vickers and Eileen Bridge unfortunately lost their home advantage against Boston West – as the Surfleet course was closed due to heavy overnight rain.
The clash was duly switched to Boston and, after some excellent holes on both sides, the West pairing’s home advantage prevailed and they won on the 17th hole.
- The first match of the 2016 season was played at home against Boston – and the match was halved.
Spalding’s lady captain Paula Brown and Lesley Williams lost 2 down, while Pat West and Barbara Newcombe also lost 4&3.
But the last two pairs came to the rescue with wins from Elaine Hancock and Claire Rylott (3&2) and lady president Elizabeth Holbrook and Anita Cross (5&4) ensuring the spoils were shared.

Mark Whittaker scored 37 points to take top spot in Division One of Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s March Stableford.
He edged out Adey Bills and Jamie Stott by one point, with Mark Gedge and Robert Simpson the other divisional winners.
