Spalding Water Polo hosted their inaugural Summer Friendly Tournament at Bourne Outdoor Pool on Sunday – and emerged as winners of their own event.
The event was very well attended with teams from Cambridge, Northampton, Bedford and Grantham joining Spalding in the pool, while mixed teams and up and coming juniors were also able to take part.
It was a round robin event, with Spalding taking the title and two of their players picking up individual awards.
Spalding keeper Matt Papworth earned the ‘most valuable goalkeeper’ while team-mate Gareth Lord took the top scorer trophy.
The club now hope to make the tournament an annual affair.
Assistant coach Mark Le Sage said: “It was a great event with so many players coming from across the counties to take part and was a real credit to the organisers.”
Spalding Water Polo’s training takes place on a Tuesdays at the Castle pool and will resume as soon as it re-opens.
