Spalding United excited by friendly date with Peterborough United

Spalding United have announced a lucrative home pre-season friendly with Championship side Peterborough United.

The Tulips will welcome a Posh XI to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Wednesday, July 28 in what is the biggest game the club has hosted in recent history.

Due to current Government restrictions, only a limited number of tickets will be sold online from this week – and further details on purchasing will be announced shortly by the club.

The Tulips are operating on a first come, first served basis when purchasing online becomes available and once tickets are sold there will be no additional tickets, so urge fans to purchase as soon as possible.

Tulips boss Gaby Zakuani is a club legend at Posh – and has recently signed Marcus Maddison, who made his name with Darren Ferguson’s side.

Zakuani said: “I can’t wait for this one. But anyone having any ideas about clamping Marcus needs to know I’ll have my kit under my jacket!

“Special mention to (Posh chairman) Darragh MacAnthony, who has been very supportive to me since joining Spalding United.

“Hopefully we’ll see a lot of familiar faces come down for the game and support my club. I’m always grateful to Posh for being like family to me, so I’m expecting a decent turnout.”

Tulips CEO Leigh Porter added: “This is very exciting news and a privilege for the club to host Posh just before their Championship season starts.”
