Spalding Town under-11s came up just short in a hard-fought battle at Billingborough.

Joe Maltby grabbed a wicket as the Spalding lads limited their hosts to 169-2 from their 16 overs (both sides started on 100).

Daniel Plant (bowled three overs for nine runs) and Cameron McCallum (two overs for six runs) were the pick of the bowlers, though.

The impressive Plant top scored down the order with 13 in reply, but Spalding closed on a 158-6 from their allotted overs.

Coach Malc Mumby said: “Overall it was a good team performance with the game going to the last over.

“We will take the positives out of the game, of which there were many – with each player improving on their last match.”
