Spalding Round Table’s £2,500 support for Kieran’s cancer treatment

The family of a young boy who quickly needs treatment in the USA following the removal of a brain tumour got a £2,500 boost to their hopes this week.

Spalding Round Table has pledged towards the £10,000 target, taking the appeal total for Kieran Taylor to around £7,500.
The lively and happy seven-year-old needs proton beam therapy, which is used to treat types of cancer in critical areas. It is not available in the UK until next year, but Kieran can’t wait that long as he could lose his vision.

The cost of the treatment, flights and accommodation is being met by the NHS. The therapy course is expected to last a minimum of six weeks and parents Steve and Karen and their other child Caitlin (9) need financial support to enable them to stay with Kieran for the duration.

Fundraising at his Spalding school, St John the Baptist, has included a money tree which brought in £2,430 and Karen says the total of an appeal via the Spalding Guardian is about £1,300.
Spalding Round Table, a charitable organisation which fundraises through annual events such as a boxing night and Spalding Beer and Music Festival, was happy to help too.

Chairman Jason Parnell said: “We’re proud to be able to support Kieran and his family through his treatment with a donation of £2,500.
“Many Tablers have young families and Kieran’s plight touched all our hearts.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and hope our donation alleviates some of the pressure on his family during his treatment in the USA.”

Kieran, of Deeping St Nicholas, faces a lifetime on medication because of the damage the tumour caused to his pituitary gland.Karen has a table top sale arranged at Spalding Grammar School on Saturday, April 22 (1pm-4pm). To book a table call 07512 151435.
