Spalding players shine at Washingborough event

Several Spalding and District Federation players qualified for the Lincolnshire Women’s Bowling Federation semi-finals at Washingborough, Lincoln.

There were some tightly fought games, notably Tracy Philpott losing 21-18 to Mary Johnson in two-bowl singles, Marion Perkins going down 21-19 to Nicola Sandys in the four-bowl singles and Sandra Hammond, Barbara Cave and Sue Hoyles winning 16-14 in the three-bowl triples.
In the finals Castle Spalding, Goodfellowship, Moulton Harrox and Royal Mail Cart had some good results.
The Goodfellowship trio of Hammond, Cave and Hoyles lost to Lincoln Moorland Railway on the last end, 17-8, with Hoyles losing to Josie Tyers, of Horncastle, in the senior singles.
However, the pairing of Maggie Wheatley and Trudy Carter ran away with victory over the Shires, North Lincolnshire, 19-6.
Royal Mail Cart’s Philpott also had a good win against Rena Markham, of the Shires, 21- 8.
Perkins, of Moulton Harrox, had a tight game against Mo Regan, of Brumby Hall, in the Secretaries Trophy, eventually winning 21-19.
Perkins and clubmates Christine Jackson and Julie Hicks had to play an extra end in their two-bowl triples against Cleethorpes, eventually winning 15 -14.
The finalists will represent Lincolnshire at the English Bowling Federation National Finals in August.
