A 23 year old Spalding man stole car parts from his place of work and tried to sell them on eBay, a court has been told.
George Charlton, also known as Whincup, of Monks Walk, admitted theft as an employee of £752 worth of car parts from his employer, Donald Mazda of West Street, Spalding, between June 6 last year and January 11 this year, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Jim Clare, prosecuting, said a manager at the store saw some items for sale on eBay that he recognised must have come from their store and the seller was identified as Charlton.
He said Charlton worked in the workshop and had access to the stores and added that all the parts had been recovered.
The court heard Charlton had ADHD and Aspergers Syndrome but admitted to officers that he knew he had done wrong.
Mitigating, Chris Pye-Smith said Charlton maintained he did have permission to take some items that were no longer wanted but it became ‘blurred’ in his mind as to what he could and couldn’t take.
“He was dishonest but reckless in his decision making,” he told the magistrates.
Mr Pye-Smith said Charlton had been diagnosed as having Aspergers when he was seven but he had learnt a lot from this experience.
He said Charlton had lost his job because of this but had now got a new job and his new employer knew about the charges.
Charlton was conditionally discharged for a year and ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.
