Spalding choir braves stage for charity

A Spalding choir made up almost entirely of newcomers hit the stage in Peterborough last week for a good cause.

Never having sung before or with little experience, several men from Spalding got out of their comfort zone, took up the gauntlet and after auditioning, joined with others from all over the region, as part of the Men United in Song 2019 Choir, to bring attention to and to fund research into a cure for Prostate Cancer.

Rehearsals took place at John Mansfield Campus in Peterborough for two hours per week for 10 weeks and culminated in a concert at The Cresset Theatre in Peterborough on Saturday, May 11, in front of a packed house of more than 800 people, including many family and friends.

Also on the bill were Peterborough Male Voice Choir and Peterborough Youth Choir, altogether singing a total of 22 songs.

A spokesman said: “The evening proved very successful and was enjoyed by all.

“The hardest part was having to learn nine songs word for word as well as rehearsing, but showed that with dedication and teamwork, anything is possible.”

So far, almost £3,500 has been raised.
