A society that helps the blind says it is “desperate” for new members to help people who may otherwise be trapped in their own homes.
The South Lincs Blind Society says it needs more volunteers to stay open.
Among their chief responsibilities is to visit those who can not see in the area and provide them some company.
A number of those are people in South Holland who may otherwise be socially isolated
Susan Swinburn is the operations manager for the charity which has its base in George Street, Boston.
She said: “I can¹t stress how much we also need volunteers who can spare an hour or so to visit those living with sight loss.
“We know of 20 or more people who socially isolated because they are unable to leave their homes.
“It would be so wonderful if we could get enough volunteers to just spend an hour or so to ease their loneliness a little and help restore their connection with the community.”
A special volunteers coffee and chat get together is being held this Wednesday, November 14 at the 17, George Street offices from 3pm.
Prospective volunteers can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome if they are able to attend the event.
“There are so many ways in which volunteers can help could you, for example, become an eye awareness ambassador to raise awareness of eye health issues by giving talks to groups such as schools or women¹s institutes and guilds?”
