Snooker round-up: Tulips C put skids on Consti F’s Division Two title charge

The title race in Division Two of the Spalding and District Snooker League is looking a little more open after the top two teams suffered defeats on Thursday night.

Perhaps the stand-out result of the week in any division saw fourth-placed Tulips C upset leaders Consti F 4-2.

The damage was done in the first three frames as Pete Ransome (O14), Jack Chilvers (O14) and James Glover (R14) all picked up victories.

Second-placed Boundary C were unable to take advantage of that result as they slipped up 5-1 at home against Consti H.

Shaun Ketteringham’s (O14) 25 clearance was in vain for the Deeping side, with Seb Grimston (O14), Doug Garfoot (O35), Mark German (O21) and Jon Holdershaw (R7) all winners for Consti H.

Third-placed Donington A took the chance to close on the top two by winning 4-2 at Pyramid C as Tony Scully (O28) won the all-important final frame.

Those results ensure that just eight points span the top four second tier sides in the race for silverware and promotion.

Elsewhere in the second tier, a 31 break from Wayne Howard (O21) couldn’t stop Sutton Bridge losing 4-2 at Donington B.

Tim Nash (O28) also made a 24 break in vain as his Services B side lost 4-2 at home against Consti G.

Up in Division One, Pyramid D are three points clear after a 5-1 home win over Tulips A. A 28 break from James Sharpe (O49) helped the Bourne side on their way, while Brett Maddison (O7) managed a 25 clearance for Tulips to seal their point.

Services A remain hot on their heels in second after also prevailing 5-1 at Boundary B.

Vince Fitter’s (O28) 21 break was their highlight.

Two points further back in third are Tulips B, who got the better of Pyramid A 4-2.

Mark Woodberry’s (O63) 24 break and Mark Wilkinson’s (O14) final frame triumph proved vital.

Just one more point back in fourth are Bourne SC A after they edged past hosts Consti B 4-2.

Breaks of 54 and 45 from star man Mark Gray (O105) helped him to victory, while Ian Clare (O7) bagged a 20 break en-route to winning the decisive final frame.

There was also a big 44 break from cue ace Jason Green (O63) for Pyramid F, but they lost 4-2 at home to Donington C.

But the big winners in the top tier were Services C, who whitewashed Holbeach A 6-0.

In Division Three, an impressive 32 clearance from Richard Clarke (O7) was the highlight. He helped second-placed Pyramid B defeat hosts Gosberton D 4-2.

Also on-song was Nic Savic (O56), who made breaks of 33 and 29 for Consti A – but saw his team go down 4-2 against friendly foes Consti J.

It was a good week for rock-bottom Gosberton B, too, as they picked up a handsome 5-1 home success over Whittlesey B.

A 21 break from Kieran Richards-Witham (O14) helped Consti E pick up a 5-1 triumph at Whittlesey A, an effort marginally bettered by Ady Halgarth (R14) as his 22 guided Gosberton B to a 5-1 win over Whittlesey B.
