Snooker round-up: Table-topping Pyramid B crash out of cup

They may be unbeaten in the Spalding and District Snooker League’s top flight, but Pyramid B have crashed out of the KO Cup.

Division One rivals Donington C were the side to do the damage, edging the Bourne side out 3-2 on their own baize.

Breaks of 22 and 20 from Spencer Dawkins (O49) and Alfonso Palumbo (O49) weren’t enough for Pyramid, as Neil Favel’s (O7) victory over Jason Green (O63) in the penultimate frame sealed Donington’s progress.

Another all-Division One affair saw Tulips A grab a welcome 3-2 win over Spalding rivals Services F.

Talisman Bren Bowman (O56) made a 22 break for Tulips, but it was Steve Smith (O7) who was the hero with a 51-15 final frame victory over Martin Ulyatt (O7).

Also progressing are Boundary C, who shaded a close battle with Consti C 3-2. A 24 break from John Walker (R14) helped him win the final frame as the Spalding side edged to victory over their Deepings hosts.

It was also 3-2 as Services D pipped Pyramid E in a game that also went down to the final frame. This time it was Mark Howlett (O14) was saw off John Clapton (R7) to secure the victory.

It’s been a tough start to the season for Division Three basement side Gosberton C, but they enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Consti D in the cup.

Frame victories from Kieran Richards-Witham (R14), Alf Ault (R28), Stuart Henderson (scr) and Stuart Tamplin (R7) gave Gosberton a welcome boost.

Elsewhere, Mark Gregory was on fine form as Holbeach C saw off hosts Pyramid A 3-2.

The O21 handicapper bagged breaks of 32 and 22 (twice) to win the penultimate frame for his side.

Another to impress was Consti J’s Nick Keeble (O35), who hit a 29 break.

However, he was beaten by Simon Slinger (R7) on the final black as Gosberton B handed the hosts a 3-2 reverse.

It was close between Services B and Donington D too, as the latter prevailed by the 3-2 scoreline.

Having lost the first two frames, Donington roared back with victories from Ken Staples (R21), Pat Taylor (R14) and Alan Stanley (R7).

The score was also 3-2 as Services A saw off Pyramid C, with Adi Liquorish (R14) winning the final frame.

It was more comprehensive for Boundary A, as they dispatched visitors Consti 4-1. Their wins came from Peter King (R7), John Tidswell (O14), Barry Malthouse (R14) and Stewart Lilley (scr).

Gosberton A progressed by the same 4-1 scoreline, as they had too much for hosts Consti E. Carl Wand (O7), Adam Twigg (O14), Jamie Mumby (R7) and Peter Waterfall (R14) got the wins.
