Snooker round-up: Sutton Bridge A win heavyweight clash in Division Two

The top two in Division Two of the Spalding and District Snooker League clashed last Thursday night – and it was second-placed Sutton Bridge A who took the scalp of leaders Bourne SC C.

After Chris Page (scr) took the opening frame for the table-toppers, three successive wins from Thomas Horspool (O42) who made a 46 break, Shane Balding (O49) and Wayne Howard (O21) gave the points to Bridge.

Martin Ulyatt (O7) grabbed the last frame for Bourne, who stay top by a solitary point.

Behind them, third-placed Consti F suffered a 5-1 home reverse against Services B as they fell further behind the top two.

Jason Rose (O21), Paul Doades (R7), Fred Cummings (R7) and Tim Nash (O28) got the wins.

Also beaten were fourth placed Donington A, who slipped up 4-2 against Gosberton A.

Alan Jackson (O14) settled that one in the penultimate frame.

Up in Division One, leaders Pyramid A picked up a 4-2 victory against club mates Pyramid C.

A 30 break from Alfonso Palumbo (O49) was in vain for the C side, who were seen off by John Twell’s (O7) final frame success for the table-toppers.

Elsewhere, a typical 51 break and 22 clearance from Mark Gray (O105) couldn’t stop Bourne SC A slipping up 4-2 at home against Sutton Bridge B.

That’s because Steve Dent (R7), Stuart Atkin (O49) and Mat Smith (O35) all secured wins, with the latter making a 29 break.

Fine breaks were also recorded as Services C picked up a 5-1 victory at Pyramid D. Both James Sharpe (O49) and Nigel Cherry (O14) pocketed scores of 32, while Kev Fitter (O28) added a cool 21.

The biggest win in the top tier came from Holbeach A, who thrashed Consti E 6-0.

Darren Woodberry (O42) and Paul Boucher (O35) bagged breaks of 32 and 25 respectively to help Holbeach on their way.

Club mates Holbeach D enjoyed a big win too as they knocked off Donington C 5-1, despite a 22 break from the in-form Neil Reynolds (O49).

In Division Three, leaders Pyramid B picked up another victory as they saw off Consti D 4-2 to stay four points ahead.

Phil Cooke (scr) settled the contest in the last frame in a match that saw three of the five frames go to the final black.

Second-placed Gosberton B fell back two points after slipping up 4-2 at home against Donington D. Pat Taylor (R21) was the match-winner in the fourth frame.

That allowed Consti I, in third, to close the gap with a 4-2 success over Whittlesey A. Pete Stokes (R7), Jonathan Smith (R21) and John Bellerby (R7) were the frame winners.

Meanwhile, a 37 break from Elliott Gaunt (O21) couldn’t stop Pyramid E losing 4-2 at promotion rivals Consti J.
