Snooker round-up: Sutton Bridge A and Pyramid B celebrate league titles as season draws to close

Two more champions were crowned on a frantic final night of action in the Spalding and District Snooker League season.

Thursday saw Sutton Bridge A clinch the Division Two crown, while Pyramid B are also celebrating after wrapping up the Division Three title.

Starting in the second tier, Bridge clinched their 20th win from 28 games as they beat Holbeach B 5-1 to move onto an unssailable tally of 105 points.

Glenn Ryan (O14), Mick Tiller (scr), Wayne Howard (O21) and Thomas Horspool (O49) were all winners on the night, with only Shane Balding (O56) suffering a defeat in the final frame.

Second place isn’t quite resolved yet, but Bourne SC C are in command after beating rivals Consti F 5-1.

Black ball wins from James Kingston (O21) and Sean Jeynes (O14) were key in that showdown.

The win leaves them five points clear of club mates Bourne SC B, who have a game in hand against Consti H still to play.

At the bottom, Donington B finish at the foot after a 4-2 loss against a Jamie Mumby (scr) inspired Gosberton A.

Mumby made a 38 break for the victorious side.

Above them, Boundary B, Holbeach F and Whittlesey C all finished with an identical record, with a three-way play-off required to determine who will go down.

Holbeach F will be the happiest with that, as they were the only one of the trio to win on the final night – beating Services E 4-2.

In Division Three, Consti I were unable to overhaul Pyramid B and settled for second place behind the newly-crowned champions.

Just five points spanned the top three, with Services D clinching third.

Consti were 5-1 winners on the final night of action, with Gosberton D their victims as they came up three points short.

Services D got the better of hosts Gosberton B by the same 5-1 scoreline.

Up in Division One, champions Pyramid A finished their campaign with a 4-2 triumph at Services A to make it 24 wins for the season.

Behind them, Holbeach C missed the chance to seal second place as they lost 5-1 at Bourne SC A.

Despite Mark Gregory’s (O35) 25 break, they are four points ahead of Boundary A, who still have to play a catch-up game.

Nothing was really decided for certain at the bottom either, with basement side Consti G beaten 5-1 at Boundary A but still six points from safety with a game to catch up on.

It’s likely Consti B will finish in the bottom two having lost 4-2 against third from bottom Holbeach A – who are a point from safety with a game in hand.

Mick Ayres (O7) won the crucial final frame to keep Holbeach alive, making a 28 break in the process. Darren Woodberry (O42) also chipped in with a 34 break.

That leaves Services C and Pyramid D sweating, just one point ahead of them.
