On-song Stuart Atkin hit the joint-highest break of the Spalding and District Snooker League Division Two season so far as he made super 69 on Thursday.
Long Sutton C’s Atkin (O42) was in sensational form to crush opponent Wayne Howard (O28) in the fourth frame – but his heroics couldn’t stop Long Sutton B winning the showdown 4-2.
That result did allow Sutton B to jump into third place, while Sutton C remain in trouble at the other end.
Second tier leaders Services C continue to impress after a battling 4-2 success over friendly foes Services A.
A black-ball victory from Shane Cummins (O14) plus a 22 break and 27 clearance from Nigel Cherry (O21) proved to be key for the table-toppers.
Second-placed Donington A did peg them back by a point after seeing off fellow club side Donington B 5-1.
Tony Scully’s (O21) 22 clearance allowed him to win his final frame with Gav Lewis (O7) to secure the five points.
However, Boundary C lost ground on the top two after slipping to a 5-1 home loss against Holbeach B.
A 25 clearance from Barry Haynes (scr) was the highlight for the victorious visitors.
At the other end of the table, Seb Grimston’s (O21) awesome 52 break helped Consti H move away from the drop zone. They were 5-1 winners at Pyramid C.
Up in Division One, leaders Bourne SC A came a cropper at lowly Consti B. Star man Mark Gray (O105) did sink breaks of 46 and 23 for the Bourne side, but he was beaten by Mick Johnson (O35) – who bagged breaks of 28 and 20 himself.
Second-placed Services E took full adavantage of their slip with a 5-1 victory at Boundary B. Craig Fitter’s (O56) breaks of 36 and 21 helped the Spalding side see out the victory in style.
Behind the top two there was a showdown between the other two members of the top four. As expected, it was a close clash between Holbeach A and Pyramid A, with the former winning 4-2.
Fifth-placed Tulips B were 4-2 victors over Consti F, with Mark Woodberry (O63) reeling off a superb 46 break.
That feat was almost matched by Neil Reynolds (O49), who racked up a 41 break and 35 clearance as his Donington C side beat Tulips A 5-1.
Down in Division Three, Crowland C continue to edge towards the title after seeing off Services D 4-2. Jim Howe (O42) bagged a 28 break in the opening frame.
Their nearest challengers, Consti I, went down 4-2 against Consti D despite a 20 break from David Twelves (R7).
Elsewhere, Joe Lewsey (R7) made a 22 break for Gosberton B in their 4-2 reverse at Consti E and both Mark Lynch (O14) and Ray Murdoch (O7) hit 21 breaks in Bourne SC B’s emphatic 5-1 win over Donington D.
