Snooker round-up: Rivals level at top of Spalding and District Snooker League after vital victories

Pyramid A made it six wins from seven at the top of the Spalding and District Snooker League with a 4-2 victory over Consti B.

Victor Rouse (R7), Michael Twell (R7) and Matthew Chapman (R7) won the first three frames for the leaders, while a break of 30 for Mick Johnson was the highlight for Consti.

Sutton Bridge are up to second and level with Pyramid A on points after a 6-0 win over Donington C.

The game was much tighter than the scoreline suggests with four of the frames being decided by 14 points or less, but Derek Beba (scr) twice, Steve Dent (O7), Stuart Atkin (R49) and Sean Swinburn (R49) won through.

They overtook Pyramid C who lost at home to Consti E despite wins for Paul Blackbourne (R14) and Jason Green (O63) on the black, the latter also earning the game’s highest beak of 41.

Jake Pettit (07) enjoyed a break of 38 as he, Nathan Wilson (O21) and Simon Law (O14) earned a 4-2 win.

Holbeach C are fourth and just four points off the top with a 4-2 win at home to Consti G, both of the latter’s frame wins coming on the black courtesy of Tom Digby (scr) and Mark Wilkinson (O21).

Paul Ashton (R14), Paul Daw (O28) and Mark Gregory (86) won it for Holbeach C.

Bourne A beat Holbeach A 4-2 in a topsy turvy game.

Paul Boucher’s 22 break helped Holbeach A to the lead but Pete Hodgson-Kerry built breaks of 33 and 27 in a 120-9 win over Mark Woodberry (O63) to level things.

Bourne’s Mark Gray (O105) had a break of 46 but Darren Woodberry (O42) took advantage of his handicap to regain the lead for Holbeach with a 98-51 frame win.

Ian Clare (O7) beat Mick Pearl (028) 80-51 to set up a final frame decider in which Oliver Player (O28) kept his nerve to beat Mick Ayres (O7) 70-53 for the Bourne win.

Services A beat Pyramid D 4-2 with Vince Fitter (028) enjoying a break of 38 as wins for him, Phil Spencer (O7) and Chris Dunmore (O21) sealed the points.

Marcus Hamilton put together a break of 22 for Pyramid D in the frame loss to Fitter.

Sutton Bridge A are in second in Division Two after a 6-0 win over Donington A, breaks of 44 and 25 by Shane Balding and two breaks of 22 by Tom Horspool being the highlights after the visiting side won the first three close frames.

Consti F moved into third with a tight win over Bourne B. Martyn Stanley (R21) and Warren Peel (scr) won the two frames for Consti but Bourne came back to level through Charile Sutton (O14) and Jake Mitchell (028). Stanley returned to win the decider 70-23 over Nick Cunnington (O7).

The division’s current bottom side Boundary B picked up a second win of the season against Gosberton A, Steve Smith (R14) winning the deciding frame and moving level on points with others in the league including Services B who were beaten by Services E 5-1.

George Neary-Phillips (O14) had a break of 22 for the E team while Ian Smith closed out his frame and the match with a break of the same value.

The other side stuck on 17 points are Whittlesey C who lost 5-1 at Holbeach E, Daryl Crane (R7) sealing it with a win on the black.

In a rearranged game on Wednesday Consti C won 4-2 at leaders Bourne C.

Gosberton B are four points clear at the top of Division Three after the final three frames against Consti B went to the final ball.

Warren Driver (R21) and Nigel Goodwin (R21) put the front runners into a 2-0 lead but Geoff Ellingworth (R14) edged past Simon Slinger (R14) 58-54, then Ray Digby (R21) bested Chris Mumby (69-56) to level.

The final frame saw Stuart Ruskin (R7) beat John Cooper (R21)68-59 to make it seven wins out of eight for Gosberton.
Consti A came back from losing their first frame to storm to a 5-1 win over Whittlesey B while Consti I overcame Gosberton C by the same scoreline.
