Snooker round-up: Long Sutton B up their game to knock leaders down table

Long Sutton B turned the Spalding and District League Division Two upside down on Thursday night as the basement boys defeated leaders Boundary C 5-1.

Adrift at the foot of the second tier for some time now, Sutton rediscovered their form and battled to victory over their title-chasing visitors as Dan Mayfield (O35) and Brandon Lee (R7) both bagged black ball wins before David Lefley (R7) and Alex Bourne (O14) also prevailed to wrap up a big victory.

Jim Howe (O49), who won Boundary’s only frame, made a 21 break as his side dropped down to fourth.

Title rivals Consti F took full advantage of that slip by seeing off club-mates Consti H 5-1 to climb back to the summit. A 26 break from Robert Adams (O14) was their highlight.

Tulips C also leapfrog Boundary after beating fourth-placed Donington A in one of the closest games of the night. Two of the five frames went to the final black, but it was Pete Ransome’s (O21) final frame triumph that saw the Spalding side home.

Elsewhere in the second tier, a 26 break from Alan Jackson (O14) was in vain as Pyramid C lost 4-2 at Whittlesey C and a 28 break from Paul Boucher (O35) couldn’t stop Holbeach B losing 4-2 at Services B.

Up in Division One, Pyramid D extended their lead at the top by winning 4-2 over friendly foes Pyramid A.

Dennis Pearson (O7) starred for them with a cool 25 break.

Second-placed Tulips A were leapfrogged by fellow title rivals Services A after the latter won a tight derby 4-2.

Breaks of 30 and 21 from Mike Knight (O21) en-route to winning the final frame helped Services take the bragging rights.

Away from the top trio, two players made impressive breaks in the 60s.

The best break of the week came from Stuart Atkin (O49), who sank a super 63 as Long Sutton A defeated Tulips B 4-2.

Spencer Dawkins (O56) also reeled off a fine 61 for Pyramid F, but saw his side lose 4-2 at home against Services C.

Meanwhile, a 31 break from Neil Reynolds (O49) inspired Donington C to a 4-2 triumph over Bourne SC A – who continue to lose ground in the race for the title.

In Division Three, Pyramid B continue to apply pressure to leaders Bourne SC B after seeing off hosts Consti I 5-1.

Third-placed Whittlesey A are just a point further back after a 5-1 win of their own at Donington D.

Steve Jennings (O28) starred with a 24 break in that big away success.

Pawel Skutela (R7) went one better with a 25 break as Whittlesey B won 4-2 at Gosberton C.

Another player on-song was Nigel Steadman (R7), as his 24 break rounded off Consti A’s 5-1 victory over Consti C.

That feat was matched by Kieran Richards-Witham (O14) as his Consti E team were handed a 4-2 home reverse by Gosberton B.
