Snooker round-up: Gr-eight start continues for Division Three leaders Crowland C

Crowland C’s incredible start to the new Spalding and District Snooker League Division Three season continued on Thursday with an eighth win from as many matches.

Their latest victims were Consti A, who were handed a 5-1 home reverse by the runaway table-toppers.

Black-ball victories from Russ Morse (O14) and Jim Howe (O35), the latter making a 21 break, proved key for red-hot Crowland.

Second-placed Consti I remain nine points off top spot – with a game in hand – following their 5-1 victory at Pyramid E, but Consti C lost ground with a 4-2 home loss against Consti J.

The best Division Three break of the week came in Bourne SC B’s 4-2 success over Services B, as Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O35) pocketed a fine 39.

Simon Born (O14) also made a 22 clearance for the victorious Bourne side.

Up in Division One, Bourne SC A are five points clear of the rest after a 5-1 home success over rock-bottom Long Sutton A.

A 21 break from Mark Gray (O105) in a black-ball win over Mat Smith (O42) proved key for the table-toppers.

Nearest challengers Holbeach A kept the pressure on with a 4-2 triumph over friendly foes Holbeach C.

A 27 break from Colin Dodd (O7) was the highlight in that one, while Mark Gregory (O21) made at 25 clearance.

At the other end of the table, Tulips A have now suffered seven defeats from as many matches after going down 4-2 at home to Pyramid B. Jason Green (O70) made a 30 break for the Bourne side, while Keith Duly’s (O21) black-ball win over Martin Anderson (O14) in the final frame settled the contest.

In Division Two, Services C remain top after a 4-2 victory over Gosberton A.

This one went to the wire, with Kev Fitter (O14) beating James Waterfall (O14) in the decisive final frame.

Also going great guns are Whittlesey C. They battled to a 4-2 victory over Donington B thanks to wins from Malc Bromfield (R14), Mick Blythe (R7) and Steve Jennings (O21).

It was also a good week for the teams at the bottom end of the second tier.

Pyramid D enjoyed a 4-2 home success over Donington A thanks to Pete Jackson’s (R7) black-ball success over Kevin Hawes (R7).

Despite the defeat, Nigel Brasier’s (scr) 31 break was the best anybody could manage in the second tier.

Basement side Consti H also secured a handsome 5-1 home win over Consti G, which was sealed by Seb Grimston’s (O21) 22 clearance in the penultimate frame.

A 24 break from the G team’s John Barnes (O14) did at least earn them a point in the final frame.

Fellow strugglers Long Sutton C also ended their losing streak with a 4-2 victory at Holbeach B.

Two frame wins from David Lefley (scr) – including a black-ball success over Baz Haynes (scr) – helped see Sutton home. Richard Lowe’s (O14) 25 clearance was Holbeach’s highlight.
