Smokefree code signs going up around South Holland

Signs encouraging people not to smoke in council play areas, and in front of schools and nurseries are going up in South Holland.

It follows a campaign initiated by Spalding dad Mark Le Sage last summer. South Holland District Council agreed to introduce a voluntary no smoking code in areas where children could be affected by passive smoking.

The council then ran a competition run in conjunction with The Voice asking youngsters to design the signs. More than 160 entries were received and four winners were chosen.

On Monday (March 7) the council launched the roll-out of the signs with an event at Spalding Parish Day School, where one of the winning designers – Millie McNeil – is a pupil.

Mr Le Sage said: “I’m delighted to see this finally come to fruition. It’s something I cared passionately about and it’s good to see that the council took this action.”
