Smith shines at Tydd St Giles Golf Club’s May Stableford

Lee Smith topped the leadboard in Division One of the May Senior Stableford competition at Tydd St Giles Golf Club.

He picked up six points to pip Mick Vassall to the title by one point.

Gerry Sherriff was one point further back to claim third.

The fight for the Division Two title was even closer, with only countback separating winner Russell Doy and Paul Jackson who both claimed 39 points. Tom Ainsley was third with 38 points.

Steve Wing flew away with the Division Three title winning with 39 points, four clear of Cliff Allen and six ahead of Tom Ainsley.

Malcolm Miller also picked up 39 points to win the Division Four title. Brian Gough was second in the division with 36 points, one ahead of David Leedle.

  • Senior past members recently competed for the Medford Trophy which saw Tony Petch come out on top.

Result: 1st Tony Petch 36-23=13; 2nd Michael Flint 34-19=15 (ocb); 3rd Brian Newby 34-19=15; 4th Peter Wheeler 36-20=16.

  • Tydd St Giles’ first team lost 5-1 at South Kyme. Wayne Alder and Clive Barber lost 4&3, Rod Drew and Lydon Mallet won 5&3, Luke Rowell and Ady Rowell lost 6&4, Ken Doughty and Will Woodrow lost 4&3, Roger Davey and Ian Larman lost 4&3, Neil John and Peter Wheeler lost 4&2.
  • Tydd’s second team won 5-1 at home to South Kyme. Steven Horton and John Kellegher won 2&1, Isaac Chaplain-Barton and Terry Alcock lost 3&2, Andy Sleath and James Horscroft won 4&3, Terry Pease and Derick Hodgson won 2&1, Tim Hipkin and Steve Slim won one up, Garry Withers and Vaughan Dibble won 3&2.
