Plans back for travellers’ site

Plans have been resubmitted for 13 new traveller homes in Lutton after a similar proposal was rejected by planners in November.

An initial application for 13 homes on a site at Ropers Gate was rejected by South Holland District Council.

But another application has been submitted to South Holland District Council for a total of 16 homes on the 2.47 acre site.

The proposal is for Green Acres Park and the previous application was said to be ‘a large scale site is inappropriate.’

“Furthermore, the proposal, whilst acceptable in general principle terms does not sufficiently justify the site-specific need to intensify the number of pitches,” said the report at the time.

The site has permission for eight pitches already but only three have been used.

It also said the site was close to a group of dwellings belonging to the settled community and, ‘if approved it would represent a disproportionate balance between the local community and the number of gypsy travellers plots.’

In the most recent application, the agent said there was a ‘substantial number of enquiries to rent and also to sell.

“There is a significant need for these plots,” says the document.

The name of the owner has changed in between applications, with Mr Lee apparently owning it under the company name of SJL Property Kent Ltd. The original application showed Ms C Bushby.

The application again shows the creation of an internal access road and landscaping. It also says cess pits will be the foul sewage system.

The Environment Agency had objected to the original because of the flood zone it fell in.

There were several objections, including from the parish council, ranging from highway safety to the ‘disproportionate’ size.

The pre-application advice section of the document shows that it was ‘generally supported with explanation of current amendments.’
