SLBL cricket round-up: Moulton Harrox cruise to second win on the spin, Sutton match abandoned

Moulton Harrox made it back-to-back wins in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division on Saturday with a comprehensive nine-wicket success over rock-bottom Billingborough.

With Chris Beale winning the toss, the Moulton skipper put Billingborough into bat at Broad Lane – and saw his side bowl them out for 128.

Matt Barnett (37) then top scored as the hosts Harrox cruised to 129-1 in their reply.

The Billingborough innings lasted only 33.1 overs, with Dave Newman (38) the shining light at the crease.

Travis Harrison (3-40), Harry Lovell (3-20), Thuva Murali (2-18) and Jack Barnett (1-20) did the damage with the ball.

The win never looked in doubt for Moulton from then on, with Matt Barnett and skipper Beale (36 not out) sharing a solid opening stand.

When Newman removed Barnett, Matt Rose (33 not out) came in to keep his captain company and the pair eased to their target with more than 20 overs to spare.

The win sees Harrox move up to eighth place ahead of Saturday’s game at seventh-placed Market Deeping 2nd (1pm).

Staying in the top flight, Long Sutton saw their home game against Market Deeping 2nd abandoned due to rainfall at Paradise Field.

Sutton did manage to get their innings completed and were all out for a relatively strong 210 from 44.5 overs.

Dan Oldfield (52), Jamie Taylor (30) and Adam Wright (24) were the chief run scorers for the hosts, helping them pick up 13 points from the abandoned derby.

Sutton are back at home on Saturday, with Bourne 2nd the visitors (1pm).

In Division One, Spalding 2nd’s tough season continued as they suffered an 11th loss from as many matches.

They were handed a hefty 105-run reverse at Grantham 3rd and stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

Town won the toss and put the home side in at Gorse Lane, but Grantham went on to post 206-9 from their 45 overs.

Grantham skipper Graeme Davidge (83) and number four Thomas Parr (49) were the big scorers, while Rob Seymour (4-56), Neo Timothy (2-49) and Thomas DeCamps (2-51) fared well with the ball for Spalding.

It was tough going for Town in their reply, with only Jack Sawyer (19), Timothy (18 not out) and DeCamps (13 not out) making double figures in their 101-7.

Toby Cullen (4-6 in five overs) was the chief tormentor for Grantham.

Spalding are without a game this weekend, but divisional rivals Moulton Harrox 2nd host Orton Park 2nd (1pm).

In Division Two, Long Sutton 2nd (68 all out) suffered a six-wicket defeat at Skegness 2nd (70-4).
Ed Munson (3-28) bowled well for them in defeat.
