Tydd St Mary produced an assured performance to win 4-2 at Thorpe Wood Rangers in ChromaSport PDFL Division Three on Saturday.
The Saints started strongly and were 1-0 up within two minutes when a great ball in from skipper Nick Reims was buried by Stu Easey.
Ian Thrower’s own goal on the quarter-hour levelled things up, before Thorpe Wood had a big shout for a penalty waved away following a collision involving David Cooper.
However, it was Tydd who struck next on 37 minutes when Jason Powley headed an Easey free kick across goal for the on-rushing Reims to head home from close range.
Not done there, man-of-the-match Reims danced into the Thorpe Wood box on the hour mark and beat two players before clipping a great ball in for the on-rushing Scott Pemberton to score a great diving header for 3-1.
The Saints looked comfortable after that goal until, on 83 minutes, Thorpe Wood scored their second when a great run by Dan Leach saw him beat two players and smash the ball into the top right corner.
That could have set-up a nervous finale for Tydd, but they restored their two-goal advantage with just two minutes to play.
Reims whipped in a corner for Tim Lowe, who met the ball on the full to tee a chance up for Dan Clitheroe, who rifled home on the volley.
Tydd co-manager Dave Monaghan said: “That was a good performance.
“We showed a lot of determination and spirit to win. It’s nice when you win playing like that.”
