There was a shock result in the quarter finals of the Billiards Shield competition in the Spalding and District Billiards League as the league leaders were knocked out.
Bottom-of-the-league Pyramid A beat Gosberton in a close contest, meaning they advance to the semi-final.
Pyramid’s Reegan Cooke-Holmes (R70) showed great promise as a rising billiards star, beating Des Forbes (R50), who was not showing his league form for this match.
Gosberton’s Malc Dennis (R110) stepped out of retirement to play and in a closely fought contest was pipped at the post by John Clapton (R100).
So with John Twell (R70) needing to score 141, it was going to be an uphill challenge for Gosberton’s Marcus Pell (O40).
He did win with a score of 200-146, including breaks of 30, 22, and 20 but this was still not enough to progress to the semi final, and Bourne won 546-541.
Holbeach B consisting Denis Hix (R70), Chris Chamberlain (R50) and Neil Harvey (R50) beat Consti B 596-507, while Donington are also through to the semi-finals.
They beat Pyramid B 600-449, thanks to 200 scores from Nigel Brasier (R70), Tony Scully (R40) and Ben Wrigglesworth (R20).
The fourth team through are Bourne SC who beat Holbeach A 530-428.
