Sheriff leaves it late for share of points

Owen Sheriff’s late header secured a point for Pinchbeck United at Shirebrook Town on Saturday to stretch their unbeaten United Counties League Division One run to seven matches.

The Knights trailed to Kian Tansley’s goal at the break but grabbed a point on the break in the 89th minute.

New signing Conor Dunphy went straight into the starting line-up after joining from the University of Derby, but Pinchbeck suffered an early blow when they lost JJ Ward to injury.

A game of few chances saw the visitors come close in the seventh minute when Flynn Slater just failed to convert Josh Simpson’s cross and again soon after the break when Freddie Shinn headed Nathan Stevens’ cross over the bar.

The Knights took a break from league action on Tuesday when they welcomed Yaxley to Eslaforde Park in the Knockout Cup.

Ward made a quick recovery from Saturday’s injury to strike the only goal of the game with a 25-yard free-kick.
