A national store with a branch in Spalding town centre has announced up to 3,900 redundancies.
Wilko is currently consulting with staff on the shake-up.
The company is looking to take out a level of supervisory roles across the UK but is also creating 1,000 new senior positions as part of the changes.
The consultation is due to run until October.
Wilko’s most recent accounts show pre-tax profits falling by 80 per cent in the year to January 28 after a rise in costs. The figures and potential redundancies were reported in the trade’s Retail Week.
The company also said the introduction of the National Living Wage had hurt discount retailers in the sector.
“The simpler, newly defined store structure will give teams greater variety within their roles and result in more team hours on the shop floor, delivering a better customer experience,” said Anthony Houghton, Wilko retail director.
