Sea of roses for the fallen

A new memorial garden should be a sea of red, white and purple thanks to the hard work of a group of volunteers.

Veterans’ campaigner Harold Payne is creating the garden with 1,000 roses to honour armed forces personnel lost in wars and conflicts in the last 50 years.

The garden, in Fleet, can be seen from the A17 and Mr Payne is hoping for donations of rose bushes to finish-off the project.

“We have around 700 and I hope we can get more donated so we can get them planted,” said Mr Payne, of the Anglia Motel, Fleet Hargate.

Special gates have been made by The Chain Bridge Forge after thieves stole a set last year.
Rose bush donations can be left at the motel.
