Schools sign up to Anglian Water composting challenge

Five schools in South Holland have pledged to get composting for a new contest.

They are among the entrants in the Anglian Water Keep It Clear Fat of the Land Composting Challenge, in association with Lincolnshire Community and Voluntary Service.

Free specialist composting bins, worth around £180 each, have been presented to each of them as well as giant pumpkin seeds.

All have been challenged to create an innovative gardening project incorporating composting and grow the biggest pumpkin.  Gardening vouchers totalling £1,200 are to be won.

Collette Parker, Keep It Clear customer engagement manager, said: “We are thrilled so many people have embraced the contest which is all about raising awareness of compost bins now available that allow food waste to be recycled.

“Getting people recycling food waste helps to ensure fats, oils and other items are kept well away from drains.”

Recipients of free composting bins and registered to take part in the challenge include:

  • St John the Baptist Primary School, Spalding
  • Spalding Parish Church of England Day School
  • St Bartholomews Primary School, West Pinchbeck
  • Monkshouse Primary School, Spalding
  • Friends of Sir Gleed School, Spalding

The registration period for the challenge has now ended. Entries will be judged during the first week of October.
