Saturday football: Big victories for Holbeach and Pinchbeck, but Spalding are beaten

Both Holbeach United and Pinchbeck United enjoyed important wins in their bid for ChromaSport UCL silverware on Saturday, but their was more away misery for Spalding United in Evo-Stik NPL First Division South.

Starting with Holbeach, Spencer Tinkler struck a late winner to give them a potentially pivotal 2-1 success at ON Chenecks in the UCL Premier Division.

Danny Brooks had earlier given the Tigers a first-half lead, but that was wiped out by a penalty for the hosts.

The win moves Seb Hayes’ side up to third in the table one point behind second-placed Wisbech Town with a game in hand and four points behind leaders Yaxley with four games in hand.

In UCL Division One, Pinchbeck moved ten points clear at the summit with two games in hand thanks to a thumping 4-0 victory over Melton Town.

Strikes from Aaron Eyett (2), Ollie Maltby and Liam Ogden gave the relentless Knights all three points at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, while nearest-rivals Raunds Town were losing 2-1 at Olney Town.

Elsewhere, Spalding’s travel sickness continued as they were handed a 2-0 defeat at Chasetown.

Second-half goals from Jake Lovatt and Muzzy Nduna accounted for the Tulips, who are now 15th in the table after being leapfrogged by rivals Lincoln United and Peterborough Sports.

Chris Rawlinson’s side do still have a seven-point cushion from basement side Gresley, who occupy the one and only relegation spot this season.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Bobby Patterson was among the scorers as Moulton Harrox won 3-0 at Sawtry to go second in the Premier Division.

Holbeach United Reserves also battled out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Whittlesey Athletic at Carter’s Park, while Sutton Bridge United lost 6-1 at home to leaders Netherton United.

In Division One, Long Sutton Athletic were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by Crowland Town at London Road.

There will be no all-South Holland final in the Chairman Championship Shield, though.

Moulton Harrox Reserves beat hosts Ramsey Town 5-3, with Martin Sandall and Dec Earth netting doubles, to reach the final.

But Tydd St Mary lost 3-2 against Wittering Harriers on home soil in their last four clash.
