Runaway leaders Pinchbeck United challenged to go unbeaten for rest of season

Buoyant Pinchbeck United player/boss Ian Dunn wants to see his side finish the ChromaSport UCL Division One season unbeaten en-route to clinching the title.

The Knights go into Saturday’s home date with Melton Town (3pm) with a seven-point lead over second-placed Raunds Town, with two games in hand, after last weekend’s trip to Stewarts and Lloyds was postponed.

Dunn knows that there’s a realistic possibility that his charges – who haven’t lost since September – could wrap up the league title by March, but is adamant that there will be no complacency at the Sir Halley.

“We’re taking it a game at a time,” said the Pinchbeck chief. “We know that we’re overwhelming favourites.

“But I’m not concerned with what anybody else is doing, it’s all about what we do on the field.

“My challenge to the lads is to go unbeaten for the rest of the season. How many teams in UCL history have gone unbeaten from September? That has to be the aim for us now.”

Dunn isn’t likely to underestimate Saturday’s opponents Melton, though.

The Knights were made to work hard for their 2-0 win at Melton Sports Village back in December – and performed well enough to impress the leaders.

“Melton are better than their league position suggests,” added Dunn. “They’re one of the best teams that we’ve played against this season.

“They’ve probably been inconsistent, but on their day they challenge anyone.

“For us, it’s just another game to tick off. We’re in a very strong position and, obviously, it could have been even stronger if Raunds had dropped points last weekend.

“We feel that we’ve proven we’re the best team in this league and we’ll back ourselves to get three more points on Saturday.”

Pinchbeck could have a new face in their ranks after snapping up midfielder Bradley Easy from Wisbech St Mary.

Dunn feels he’ll “add quality to the squad” and admits that he’s “obviously a very decent player”.

Meanwhile, Jack Smith and Tom Sergeant should both be able to feature.

Both would have missed last weekend’s postponed game at Corby.
