Aaron Eyett marked his debut with a goal as Pinchbeck United won 3-0 at Potton United to move ten points clear at the top of the ChromaSport UCL Division One table.

The winger, signed from Premier Division outfit Boston Town last week, was joined on the scoresheet by leading scorer Ollie Maltby and midfielder Andrew Tidswell at The Hutchinson Hollow.

Eyett needed just seven minutes to open his Knights account on Saturday, while Maltby doubled the lead with a penalty – his 25th goal of the season – two minutes before the break.

Tidswell’s second-half clincher was his tenth of the campaign and ensured that Pinchbeck ended a stellar 2017 in a commanding position at the summit.

Assistant boss Allan Ross said: “I was very impressed with Aaron. His attitude is spot-on – he just settled in and got on with the job that is expected of him.

“He’s a very good player and it showed. What is also great is that he came here because he’d heard good things from other players, not because we pulled out all of the stops to get him.

“It shows how far we’ve come as a football club.

“I thought it was a good performance from the lads and we won pretty comfortably in the end.

“Before the game, they probably felt they could catch us. But perhaps we’ve burst that bubble a little bit.

“We did our homework on Potton – as they are a very good side. Once Ollie scored the penalty to make it 2-0 just before half-time, we decided to take no risks.

“I have no doubt that Potton will go on a good run after this, they are one of the better sides we’ve faced.

“But we’re so confident at the moment. People aren’t always that complimentary about us, but we keep things simple.

“We find the quickest and easiest way to win a game and make sure we’re difficult to beat at all times.

“You don’t get additional points for style. We’re a very stubborn side with a great work ethic and that showed again on Saturday.”

Pinchbeck: Swan, Gordon, Jack Smith, A Murrell, Sergeant, Shipley, Tidswell, Wright, Eyett, Ogden, Maltby. Subs used: Bishop, Brooks, Buzas. Not used: Shackleton.
