Leicester Nirvana 2
Holbeach United 3
A no-nonsense display saw Holbeach United end their two-game losing streak at Leicester Nirvana on Saturday.
An early Kamron Bass own goal gave the Tigers the lead in the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division clash, but Gurdeep Mudhar equalised on 25 minutes.
Jake Clitheroe restored Holbeach’s advantage moments later from an Adam Jackson cross, but it was 2-2 at half time thanks to another Leicester leveller from Suleiman Nassor (32).
The clincher came eight minutes into the second period as Tommy Treacher guided home a header from another Jackson cross, but Holbeach’s task was made a little easier following a red card for a wild tackle by Shaquille Master on their left back.
Tigers’ player/boss Tom Roberts admitted that he wanted to avoid a third loss on the spin at any cost – and was pleased with the battling showing.
He said: “Winning was all that mattered. We were very workmanlike and kept things basic.
“You never want to lose three on the trot, so we decided to strip things back and just get the ball in the box.
“On this occasion, it worked well for us.
“There wasn’t an awful lot of quality in the game from either side, but I couldn’t care less.
“We put a lot of effort into the game and got the result we deserved.
“I thought Aaron Eyett was a great impact sub for us and Adam Jackson delivered two great assists. I was disappointed with the scissor tackle on him, but thankfully he’s doing OK.”
As well as the three points, the performance of new midfielder Stuart Muldrew, signed from Bedford Town, was another boost for Roberts and the Tigers. Muldrew, who is 22, lists Northern Irish side Ards FC among his former clubs.
Tigers: Drury, Walton, A Jackson, N Jackson, Allen, Tinkler, Warfield, Muldrew, Jack Smith, Treacher, Clitheroe (Eyett 65). Not used: Cundy, Roberts, Thomas.
