Roads remain closed as Spalding water problems go into a second day

Two roads remain closed this morning (Thursday, September 4) with large parts of Spalding not having their usual supply of water.

Anglian Water say they’re still working on the issues but it’s more difficult than first thought and are now aiming to have supplies back by 8pm tonight.

It follows separate leaks on water mains under both Haverfield Road and Winsover Road that occurred yesterday (Wednesday, September 3)

Both roads remain closed this morning.

A number of businesses have also been affected.

Jason Rooke of Rooke’s Pet Products has a business property on Cradge Bank that has been without water and says that workmen have told him that the Winsover Road burst happened as they tried to divert water away from the Haverfield Road leak.

“What they’ve been telling me about 100-year-old pipes and the work that’s ongoing backs up my view that the infrastructure has not been maintained/updated to cope with increasing demand and is not fit for purpose,” he said. “That’d despite the amount we all pay for water.

An Anglian Water update on its website states: “We’re sorry you’re still experiencing either very low water pressure or no water at all in Spalding.

“This is being caused by a burst water main in your area. We’ve had to extend our repair time because it’s proving more complicated than we first expected. Our team on the ground is working as fast as they can for you.”

Spalding Grammar School, which is close to Haverfield Road, was meant to start back today but it’s had to remain closed due to not having any water.

The school says it is ‘hopeful’ that it will be open tomorrow.
