Revamped Voice League format serves up top opening night of action

The new-look Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League kicked off another campaign on Monday – and it began with a real bang.

It was the first evening since the league split to three tiers and the action seemed to improve even further as result, with plenty of competitive and exciting matches at Surfleet’s Glen Park.

The top tier, dubbed The Premiership, looks a tough challenge this season, with every side capable of winning on their day.

It got under way with The Predators (formerly Evolution) beating potential title-challengers You’ve Got No Fans 2-1. Jason Chilvers snatched man of the match (MOTM) after an industrious showing.

Football Club will sit as many people’s title-favourites this season. They kicked off their campaign with a frustrating 1-1 draw against last season’s runners-up Polishborough, who snatched a late leveller.

Both sides ended the game a player short after Cameron Cope and Tomasz Rabiega were sent off. MOTM went to Darren Gedney.

New boys AFC Supernova began life in the league with a 1-0 loss against a stubborn Univeg outfit, who had Ramunas Jurevicius as MOTM.

Notinmymums Forest sit top of the table after a 5-0 points match win.

Meanwhile, The Championship showcased plenty of goals to kick-off the new season.

Romasexuals (formerly Mirror Signal Malouda) kicked off their campaign with a comfortable and well-deserved 4-0 whitewash against Nibblesborough FC, who were out-of-sorts and disorganised.

Pint-sized striker Damon Gibbs was MOTM.

Also 4-0 winners were Horse and Groom, who saw off new-side Pathetic Athletic from the Boston League. Danny Hunt took the MOTM prize in this one.

Match three was another game and another defeat for Simple FC, who continued their poor vein of form from last season with a disappointing 4-2 defeat against a Puyol Pants Down side who won Division Two last time around.

Puyol had skipper Ryan Mills as MOTM – and he also collected the championship trophy.

Posh Old Boys then lapped up a 5-0 win to take an early lead in the table after they were credited with the victory because of Sarah’s Boys failure to attend. They have now left the league.

Elsewhere, League One favourites FC Salad Fingers started with a ruthless and brutal 6-0 thumping of ABCDE FC (formerly Balotellitubbies).
Liam Lachasseigne was MOTM for the winners.

Match two was a narrow win for in-form Tekkerslovakia, who beat Dynamo Kiev 1-0. Frontman Tim Barrass was the MOTM for them.

How Far Can You Swim? then lost 3-1 to last season’s wooden spoon ‘winners’ Bowlcut Wanderers.

Captain Curtis Roberts-Argrave was MOTM for Bowlcut in a game that was played in the right spirit.

The TBME enter the new season with a new name – Loftus-Cheeky Nando’s – and they managed to smash Mail Carters 5-2.

Wes Wilson grabbed the last MOTM prize of the nigh.
