This weekend marks the 100 year anniversary of the end of the First World War and Sunday’s Remembrance Day is a time to remember those lost in conflict.
On Friday (November 9), Sam Fowler of Royals Gym will pay tribute to his former Royal Marines colleagues with a charity endurance event raising money for the Royal British Legion and the Royal Marines Charity.
From 6am he will embark on a feat that will include running 100km (62 miles) and lifting 100kg, 100 times.

On Friday in Pinchbeck, a service will take place at the Pinchbeck Memorial at 10.45am. Pinchbeck CoE Primary School will be in attendance.
A Saturday parade will take place at Springfields Retail Outlet. The Royal British Legion will assemble at 10.30am outside Cotton Traders, before heading to a specific tree which has been used in previous years’ parades.
On Sunday, the Royal British Legion Sunday Spalding parade starts at Bridge Street and moves off at 10.30am to Ayscoughfee for the service at 11am.
In Surfleet, people are asked to gather at the beacon, in Glen Park, at 6.30pm for a reading of the poem Tribute to the Fallen at 6.50pm. Five minutes later a bugler plays The Last Post and the beacon is lit at 7pm. There will be hot soup served in the hall following the event.
The Remembrance Service itself will be held in the church at 10.30am followed by a wreath-laying at the War Memorial.
In Long Sutton, along with the beacon-lighting at 7pm, the names of the town’s fallen from the First World War will also be read.
There will be a Remembrance Trail through the Park Road Cemetery in Holbeach on November 10. A memorial cross will be laid at each of the graves commemorating the 31 fallen soldiers from the First World War, four Second World War graves and one from a later conflict.
The event starts at 2pm from the Chapels and organisers are asking any relatives to make themselves known so they can plant the cross.
The Chapels will be open from noon for a special exhibition being held.
The town’s service at the War Memorial is at 2pm followed by a service at All Saints’ Church at 2.30pm.
There will be a Remembrance Day Service at Moulton Chapel Methodist Church at 10.30am on Sunday, November 11 led by the Rev Alan Barker.
In Spalding, a parade will form-up in the town’s Market Place before moving off at 10.15am to head to Ayscoughfee Gardens.
A service of Remembrance will be held at the Cenotaph memorial before the parade returns to the Market Place.
This year, trained volunteers from The Rotary Club of South Holland will be looking after temporary road closures to allow the parade to pass.
They have the authority of a Temporary Road Traffic Regulation Order and organisers are appealing to drivers to be patient on the morning of Sunday, November 11.
The full closure will include the Market Place on Saturday night so it is clear of parking for the following day.
The parade will head through Bridge Street, High Bridge, Churchgate and then Ayscoughfee Gardens.
London Road will be closed at its junction with Vine Street; High Street will be closed at the junction of Holland Road; Church Street will close at the junction with Love Lane and Halmergate and Cowbit Road will be closed at its junction with Church Gate and Love Lane.
As soon as the parade passes, the roads will re-open. Pinchbeck will have two services on Sunday.
In the morning, the Remembrance Parade and Service Parade assemble at Bear Lane and set off at 10.30am for St Mary Church Service 10.45am, followed with a parade back to Bear Lane.
A 6.30pm commemoration service takes place at St Mary Church, which will include the lighting of the beacon and the ringing of the bells.
A number of displays have been set up at churches and town halls across South Holland.
Whaplode Drove church’s centenery exhibition features a First World War display and an aisle decorated with poppies.
The Armistice Day display at Broad Street Methodist Church in Spalding has 3,000 poppies which will be sold after the Service for Remembrance on Sunday, November 11 at 10.30am.
