Relentless Prior seals yet another winning Welland Yacht Club double

The imperious Andy Prior continued his winning streak at Welland Yacht Club with two more victories in the Munson Cup on Sunday.

In fairly blustery conditions, seven boats took to the start line with Prior (Laser) taking the early lead from Tom Bell (Laser Radial), Alan Cox (Laser Radial), Neal Tack and Rebecca Slator (Graduate), Katie Follington (Topper), Mark Scourfield (Solo) and Alistair Mitchell (Laser Radial).

As they tacked their way up to the windward mark, Cox, Mitchell and Follington got caught by a gust and found themselves in the water following a capsize each.

At the front, Prior mistakenly rounded the wrong buoy – losing positions to Bell and Scourfield.

The run downwind allowed him to regain the lead, though, and he built up enough of a time difference to avoid the others catching on handicap.

Bell and Scourfield, second and third on the water, placed there after handicap too.

Race two saw seven boats start again, although Gail Follington replaced daughter Katie in the Topper.

The finishing order was the same as race one, although Tack/Slator were forced to return due to a broken rudder and Cox followed suite after finding himself in the water.
