Raising funds all part of the service

A group of young people have been raising money for local good causes as part of the National Citizen Service (NCS) scheme.

The NCS is a voluntary scheme that intends to build the confidence of young people by getting them involved in their community and taking part in trips and events.

As part of it the 15 to 17-year-olds taking part in the initiative from South Holland recently put on a fundraising day to raise money for The Lighthouse Project and Mind at the Sir Halley Stewart.

They raised £330 for Mind and £214 for The Lighthouse Project through stalls and games.

Hazel Davies, who is helping oversee the NCS in South Holland, said: “It went really well and together they raised £544 for local charities.

“The kids have a graduation event in September where they receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister to say they’ve graduated from the NCS.”
