Pumpkin Parade comes to town

Tomorrow (Friday) Spalding will be awash with orange as the annual Pumpkin Parade comes to town.

This is the 14th year the celebration of local horticulture and harvest has been held and promises to be as much fun as ever.

Throughout the day there will be a festival market with a mix of stalls from local charities and local producers.

And from 11am onwards, look out for the comedy street entertainment, or pick up some tips at the cooking demonstrations.

Music lovers should look out for The Courgettes as they perform a menu of ska, jazz, swing and rock ‘n’ roll.

You can also join craft workshops by Makendo to produce a piece of pumpkin themed artwork that you can wear, carry or wave in the parade.

At 5.30pm, join comperes Tulip Radio on the stage in the Market Place for the fancy dress competition and live music.

Then the centrepiece of the event – the parade itself – starts in the Sheep Market, so come along with your pumpkins at 6.30pm.

As always the parade will be led by the pumpkin coach.

In the evening, there will be live entertainment from local artists including Vibe Youth Choir, Bourne Borderers and Radius 45.

The grand finale firework display takes place at 7.30pm.

Wildlife theme in Crescent

Independent businesses in The Crescent Traders Association will be taking part in the pumpkin parade.

Following on from the success of last year’s One Direction window competition there will be a British wildlife inspired free competition with woodland creatures hiding in the shop windows amongst 200 carved and decorated pumpkins.

Competition forms can be collected from the Pumpkin Patch and various shops in The Crescent.

The Pumpkin Patch will also be available as a backdrop for children’s photos. Professional photographer Julian Wheeler from Welland Photography will be on hand to take the pumpkin snaps.

Continuing with the wildlife theme The Lincolnshire Bat Group, will be in the street with some of their resident bats, alongside The Owl Conservation Society who will also have some of their owls with them.

Unique Cottage Studios will be based at 24 The Crescent and will be running craft activities for children centred around the wildlife theme.
