Pride at bingo queen Phyllis

The eyes are on the Pride of South Holland Awards for bingo organiser Phyllis Newton who is this week’s featured nominee.

Phyllis’s Prize Bingo nights in Whaplode have proved a hot ticket for several years now and raised thousands of pounds for local charities.

Each month the village hall event raised money for a different charity.

In 2019 that led to her raising £4,400 and though she’s not kept a running total, it’s thought she’s raised over £150,000.

Paul Denman, who nominated Phyllis for the Senior Citizen award, alongside several others including Moulton Medical Centre, said: “Phyllis’s quiet, yet phenomenal commitment to raising funds for Lincolnshire causes is something to be celebrated.

“I’m sure we all like Phyllis, support some causes.

“Actions speak louder than words and Phyllis’s actions over the last 50 years speak volumes. Phyllis has no intentions of stopping yet and recognition of her fantastic past, present and future efforts is long overdue.”
