Power of darts to help hospital at Spalding charity event

Darts legend Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor will be taking to the oche to raise money for Spalding’s Johnson Hospital later this year.

He will be joined by top names Wayne Mardle, Joe Cullen and Jonny Clayton at the special event in September.

The line-up will be hugely popular with darts fans from across the area.

Organised by the team which has raised more than £50,000 from the annual Johnson Hospital Ball, the night is proving popular.

Springfields Events and Conference Centre is hosting the night on September 20 and tickets are on sale now.

Organiser and Outpatient Sister Sally Brown the group wanted to bring something different to the area to raise money for the hospital.

“We are really secret darts nuts and have been to several events which were brilliant fun. We thought that it would be great to bring it to Spalding and contacted the promoter who agreed to help us.

“Even if you’re not a darts fan, it’s a great night of entertainment and we are really looking forward to it,” she said.

The Pro Darts Charity Showdown will be instead of the annual ball this year.

“We love the ball, but it’s not for everyone so we thought that this year we would try something else,” said Sally.

Money raised by the committee is spent on a range of things at the hospital not funded from the NHS budget.

It includes new drinking fountains, piped music, kitchen area and has adapted rooms for day surgery procedures at the site.

Members work closely with the League of Friends to improve patient and relative comfort.

Tickets are available via the website EventBrite and range from the VIP package at £65 with a meet-and-greet and waitress service; to the bronze £22.50 unreserved standard seating.

Tables can also be sponsored at £50 and other sponsor help would also be welcomed.
