Popular parade and service in Donington to remember Arnhem fallen

Parachute Regiment veterans and their families and friends were joined by other village residents in paying respects at the 72nd Arnhem parade and service in Donington last Sunday.(Sept 25)

The service at St Mary and the Holy Rood Church was very well attended, including veterans attended from various military campaigns including World War Two, Suez, Falklands and Iraq.

The names of the fallen from the 1st Parachute Squadron the Royal Engineers were read out by World War Two veteran Harold Covington. He then laid a wreath in their remembrance at the memorial beneath the Arnhem oak tree brought back as a sapling from the battlefield.

The Last Post was played by bugler Katy Jeffery and The British Legion standard was carried by fellow Donington resident Nick Chadburn. Spalding piper Allan Prebble led the parade to the church and played the Squadron Lament during the service.
